2025 FDD Capital Grant Recipients & Their Impact

Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego – Real Options for Adults with Disabilities (ROADs) Portable Stage -- $7,059

The Real Options for Adults with Disabilities (ROADs) program provides educational and enrichment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities ages 22-50, many of whom are no longer served by the public school system.

With FDD funding, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego will purchase a portable stage, creating new opportunities for participants to engage in performance-based learning and self-expression. This investment will:

  • Enable 30-35 individuals with Down syndrome, autism, and other disabilities to participate in performances, presentations, and group activities.

  • Foster confidence, communication skills, and creativity through music, theater, and storytelling.

  • Provide a mobile solution that can be used across multiple locations, ensuring continued access to performing arts experiences.

Through this funding, FDD is helping individuals with disabilities find their voices, build confidence, and engage with their communities in new and meaningful ways.

Home of Guiding Hands – Virtual Reality Therapy Program -- $21,400

With 1 in 36 children diagnosed with autism, the demand for innovative therapy solutions continues to grow. Home of Guiding Hands (HGH) is responding to this need by launching a Virtual Reality (VR) Therapy Program, integrating immersive experiences into traditional therapy methods.

FDD’s funding will support the purchase of 20 Oculus Rift S PC-powered VR Headsets, allowing participants to engage in therapeutic, real-world simulations that:

  • Reduce social anxiety and isolation by creating controlled, low-stress environments.

  • Improve life skills through interactive, gamified experiences.

  • Support cognitive development and increase engagement through VR-assisted learning.

  • Expand therapy access, starting with 20 participants and scaling up to serve 50+ individuals.

By integrating cutting-edge technology into therapy, FDD and HGH are pioneering new, innovative ways to enhance the well-being and independence of individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.

Includ(Ed) – Inclusive Play & Accessibility Upgrades -- $100,000

Founded in 2022, Includ(Ed) is dedicated to inclusive early childhood education, ensuring that children with documented disabilities receive the support they need to thrive. In 2024, the organization served 150 children and families through specialized programs, workshops, and playgroups.

FDD’s capital funding will help transform Includ(Ed)’s facilities by supporting the installation of:

  • Inclusive Playgrounds and Sensory Spaces – Adaptive equipment, tactile pathways, musical play elements, and interactive panels to support motor development and social interaction.

  • Parent Support Spaces – Creating comfortable environments where caregivers can connect, work remotely, or recharge.

  • ADA Compliance & Accessibility Upgrades – Ensuring facilities are fully accessible, safe, and inclusive for all families.

By investing in inclusive play and accessible spaces, FDD and Includ(Ed) are creating a foundation for lifelong learning, social development, and community support for children of all abilities.
