Our program grant initiative is designed to support nonprofit organizations that share our vision and are breaking new ground in assisting those with IDDs.

We are thrilled to announce that the FDD's Board of Directors has approved over $49,000 in Program Grant funding for this grant cycle, benefiting five exceptional organizations.

Join us in celebrating our latest program grantees, who are leading remarkable projects to transform the lives of individuals with IDDs and their families. We are immensely grateful for the groundbreaking work being done in our community, driven by the dedication and innovation of our nonprofit partners. Together, we are creating a more inclusive and supportive environment where individuals with I/DDs can thrive.

We eagerly anticipate these grants' incredible impact and are excited to continue our work alongside our community partners. Together, we can achieve extraordinary things.

Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of these programs and the inspiring stories of the individuals and families benefiting from them. We couldn't do this without our dedicated community partners, and we're excited to continue working together to build a brighter future for everyone in our community.

We're thrilled to spotlight our community partnership with Casa di Amici, an exceptional organization dedicated to enabling, empowering, and enlightening individuals with intellectual disabilities. Casa di Amici, which translates to “House of Friends” in Portuguese and Italian, serves adults with developmental disabilities in San Diego, particularly those participating in the Self-Determination Program through the San Diego Regional Center. Their holistic approach focuses on providing independent living skills, socialization opportunities, access to community resources, and vocational development, particularly emphasizing arts and sports.

Casa di Amici's mission and philosophy centers on teaching clients the functional life skills necessary to lead successful and independent lives. Program leaders are committed to integrating their clients into the community through volunteerism and neighborhood involvement. Casa di Amici promotes a nurturing environment where individuals with intellectual disabilities can thrive and build meaningful connections.

We are excited to announce that the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) has allocated program grant funding to support Casa di Amici's incredible efforts for and adults with IDDs to enhance social, problem-solving, and independent living skills. This funding will be used to purchase supplies, snacks, and drinks for their monthly events. Additionally, the grant will cover costs for the venue, DJ, decorations, raffle prizes, and food for their highly anticipated annual dance.

This partnership exemplifies our commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive communities where individuals with intellectual disabilities can flourish. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these events and the continued growth and success of Casa di Amici's programs. Through this partnership, we are making a difference and creating a brighter future for all.

Building on an innovative 30-year history, California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is a forward-focused institution dedicated to preparing future leaders, building strong communities, and addressing critical issues. The CSUSM Aspiring Scholars Program exemplifies this commitment. This non-degree, four-year university program offers students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs) an inclusive college experience.

Participants in this Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) program will engage in academic courses, vocational internships, independent living skills instruction, and campus-wide social activities, earning a higher education career studies and skill development certificate. The program will equip students for competitive integrated employment, ensuring they learn and grow alongside the CSUSM community.

We are thrilled to announce that the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) will allocate funds to provide stipends for vocational training and support for students with IDDs during their internships. These stipends will also facilitate peer mentoring, ensuring 1:1 support for each student, further enhancing their educational journey and preparing them for future success.

Since its establishment in 1956, Palomar Family Counseling Service has been a cornerstone for professional and coordinated counseling services for children and families in North County, San Diego. Their mission is to empower and uplift individuals of all ages in North San Diego County by providing high-quality mental health services that foster resilience and well-being. We are excited to announce that the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) funds will help launch the "Elevate" initiative, which provides advanced clinical training to 35-40 therapists with a focus on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This initiative includes workshops for therapists providing mental health services to youth on the autism spectrum, enhancing their skills and improving the quality of care for these young individuals. Through this initiative, Palomar Family Counseling Service furthers its mission to uplift and empower the I/DD community.

The Autism Friendly Health System Initiative (AFHSI) at Rady Children's Hospital was inspired by the needs of patients, families, and staff. This initiative focuses on creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for patients with autism through various interventions. A key component of AFHSI is customizing patient visits using the Autism Friendly Questionnaire (AFQ) to tailor visits to individual needs. Additionally, staff and clinicians receive training on proactive and reactive strategies to support autistic patients better. The hospital environment has also been adapted by implementing autism tool kits and adjusting them to accommodate sensory needs. Through these efforts, Rady Children's Hospital aims to create a health system that is more responsive and accommodating to the unique needs of patients with autism, enhancing their overall healthcare experience.

We are pleased to announce that a grant from the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) will support the expansion of the Autism Friendly Health System Initiative to 28 primary care locations, facilitating staff training at each site. This expansion furthers our mission to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with autism throughout our community. The initiative is an innovative health equity program that equips healthcare providers with tools and training to enhance patient comfort, staff preparedness, and access to equitable care.

Through the Social Club, individuals with developmental disabilities can build meaningful relationships, experience personal growth, and access opportunities that enable them to thrive.

We are thrilled to announce that Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) funds will support exciting field trips this year. Members of the Social Club will have the opportunity to attend a Padres game, Disney on Ice, and the San Diego Safari Park. These outings will enhance their social experiences, build community connections, and create lasting memories.
